After all the birthday fun and toys we were downstairs watching The Wiggles with the girls. We let the girls walk around and play, while Kaikai was sitting on me and Tonia was getting some ice cream for the girls, I heard Kalea fall and start to cry. This is not an uncommon sound in our house, but I only heard a first cry, I never heard the inhale for another cry but it didn't come. I got up to see what was wrong, she was still trying to cry but couldn't breathe...she was choking.
Her lips started to turn blue and she lost consciousness for a few seconds. I tried to slap her back and dislodge the object, then my mom came down and grabbed Kalea and pressed her on the edge of the couch. Luckily, she was able to get Kalea breathing again after the piece of popcorn was forced from her throat.
She was crying and it was the greatest sound in the world. After a few minutes of watching her closely to make sure she seemed alright, we took her to the doctor just to make sure she was okay. The doctor checked her out and let us know that she was fine.
It was a horrifying experience for her and for us. Thankfully, Kalea was safe and other than a few more gray hairs on my head, we were safe too. We are definitely blessed for being healthy and safe.

Kalea's a one year old!
Kalea's birthday was earlier this week, but we decided to wait for this weekend to celebrate so everyone could be there. We did a small little party and got some presents, some balloons, and cake.
Last year when we celebrated Kai's first birthday, we dressed her like a princess and put some cake in front of her hoping she would use her hands and make a mess while she enjoyed her cake, but Kaikai was just scared of the cake.
She pretty much ate the whole piece of cake. She kept saying "Nummy".
Yesterday, the weather was beautiful, so I took the girls on a walk to the park. They had a great time on the swings. Kaikai also liked going up and down the playground.

This year we tried something similar with Kalea, but the outcome was quite different. Kalea LOVED the cake.
